1) identifying problems with evidence-based research

3) connecting with those in need through an empathetic approach.
MISSION

Our current mission is to financially support
patients with their surgical care journey
At present, there are large disparities in access to surgery globally; we aim to raise awareness of the need for change in policy, practice and delivery of surgical care in order to address such disparities. Through the use of evidence-based research, with the support of our trustees, we will highlight the need for change in the bigger medical community.
EVIDENCE BASED APPROACH
In order to ensure our work reaches individuals further than those directly supported in our Program we are adopting an Evidence Based Approach to our work.
With the input of experienced trustees, we aim to identify an area of issue before sculpting a financial support structure. Once systems are put in place to provide solutions to the problem we have identified, our funds will be delivered to those in need. Constant feedback from the grantees and the organisation will ensure the sponsors how and where their funding is being transferred.
We will also be monitoring the impact of the funding and further add to the existing literature of its success and failures in order to provide valuable insights in further projects.
In adopting an Evidence Based Approach, the DOUM Foundation strives to not only fund but advocate for the necessary changes in policy and planning; tackling global issues from a global angle.

HOW DO WE ACHIEVE TRANSPARENCY?
Our programme is backed by an advisory board and steering committee of medical professionals with an expertise in public health and global surgery.
PROJECTS
PIPELINE
FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM (US)

Despite harnessing the most up-to-date research, technology, facilities, and human resources, patients in the US that cannot receive medical attention are abundant. Disproportionate amount of literature of disparities in OECD countries compared to LMICs denote that such financial issues are overlooked in prosperous countries such as the US. With the continuous increase of Out of Pocket (OOP) spendings on medical cost, we aim to help patients that are at a disadvantage and highlight this phenomenon as an issue. We would like to start our initiative in the field of Neurosurgery and hope to expand to other specialties.
LMIC

Doum Foundation will be collaborating in research and monitoring of a grant with GNC, WFNS. We will be providing the grant. This grant will support a neurosurgical trainee from a LMIC to acquire necessary skills to return and have a long lasting impact in their respective neurosurgical community. We aim to cover tuition, living, and transport cost for a successful completion of a program.
